Two strangers get married on a crazy night in Vegas. Back in New York, a judge forces them to live together for six months (the result of a dispute over a three-million-dollar jackpot). I discovered recently that I enjoy comedies with Ashton Kutcher, and this one is no exception. Diaz is a perfect counterpart to his engaging smile. It's not brain science but it's good clean fun, and by clean I mean that you don't hear all the foul language that seems to litter so many comedies nowadays. Still smiling the morning after.
EDIT: still fun ten years after the first viewing.

Hankering for "what could have been", a thirty-year-old man (Ben Stiller) hires a private investigator to track down his high-school flame, Mary. The investigator finds Mary but falls for her. Ben Stiller made me chuckle with the same charming awkwardness that made him shine in
Meet the Parents. A particular treat for me was his best friend Dom (Chris Elliott), whom I recognized from his role as Larry the cameraman in
Groundhog Day, one of my favorite comedies. The first half had some good laughs, the second half was entertaining.
EDIT: In 2022, twelve years after the previous viewing, this movie still works for me. Laughed and smiled. At the rate of once every ten years, I may be able to watch this film twice more before I die. Looking forward to it.

who was involved?
A high-school teacher does the bare minimum to get by in the classroom until a rich guy marries her, but tries hard to earn the cash to pay for the breast implants that will attract Prince Charming. Cameron Diaz had done a great job in a recent comedy,
What Happens in Vegas, and I wondered if she could carry a movie in the main role. She certainly does (with the help of an excellent supporting cast). The first thirty minutes were weak, not by the actors' fault but owing to a deficient script and awful lipstick. The movie's second half was a pleasure to watch, full of smiles and chuckles. Parents, watch out for adult themes.

Eager two get over some toxic relationships, two professional women — one in England, one in California — swap houses over the holiday season. Plot-wise, this has the benefit of instantly creating two fish-out-of-water situations and of opening the door to exotic romantic possibilities.
As romantic comedies go, this one is extremely cute. I loved the accents and thought the cast did a splendid job. And as a fan of comedy, there was enough in there to keep me chuckling for most of the film's insane duration, although I'll confess I watched most of its 135 minutes at 120% of its regular velocity.
If someone close to you is more into holiday movies than you are, this one is a fine pick.

What To Expect When You're Expecting

Several couples plan to have a baby, expect a baby, have a baby. Although there were a few chuckles, this was by far the worst comedy I've watched all year. At an early stage they turned the sappy tap on and never turned it off—it kept dripping, dripping, dripping. The last twenty minutes or so felt like an unending baby-fest. I don't mind indulging my partner in a chick flick sometimes, but gentlemen, do not concede on this one or the hair under your arms will fall out.
