About Jim
( wikipedia | imdb | dmoz )
This page focuses on Jim's work in comedy films, but he has played some brilliant parts in more "serious" movies. For instance, I loved him in I Love You Phillip Morris, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Man on the Moon. Strangely, Canada seems to have a relatively high output of actors who become big names in American comedy, and Jim Carrey (now also a US citizen) is one of them. Go Canada!
Jim Carrey is said to have been born on Wednesday 17 January 1962, which would make him 61 years, 4 months and 13 days old (if this date is accurate and he is alive today).

Bruce, a man who complains that God is persecuting him, finally meets God, who gives him the job of being God to see if he can do it better. After playing with his super powers, Bruce, who is only given a small section of Buffalo (New York) to start with, finds out that the job is not as easy as it sounds. This movie makes me chuckle a lot. The one scene that made me laugh out loud actually features Steve Carell in the lead, but Jim Carrey does a great job. For my taste, the ending scenes are a tad on the exalted side, but given the theme it could have been a lot worse.

who was involved?
After his five-year-old boy makes a wish that his dad wouldn't tell a lie for a day, an aggressive lawyer is unable to utter a single lie. That's a perfect source of comic situation for Jim Carrey—until then, the movie started rather slow. I'm not so fond of Jim Carrey's facial contortions, but I love that he makes me laugh anyway.

who was involved?
A State trooper who has let others walk all over him for too many years acquires a split personality disorder. His other self is rather rough, which is handy when time comes to rescue a damsel in distress. Even funnier than Jim Carrey's decent performance is the dynamics between his three black kids. There's lots to like in this movie, though it's a little too unpolished to embrace whole-heartedly.

I used not to be able to stand Jim Carey's facial contortions. Since then, I've recognized the man's genius, and I've gotten to a place where I can enjoy watching him and not ignore the faces, which still do nothing for me. I waited a long time to watch this movie because I assumed that it was for children, but I was wrong. In fact, there are several adult scenes in there. Nice photography (a Miami art deco look throughout), a good smile throughout and several good laughs.

who was involved?
After losing their jobs, two buddies travel to Aspen to return a briefcase which, unbeknownst to them, contains the ransom money for a beautiful woman's husband. A bit slow in the beginning, but the second half, after the duo arrives in Aspen, is very funny. In this movie, Jim Carey doesn't make faces.

The first half-hour of this sequel (twenty years later) to the original
Dumb and Dumber is barely watchable. I persevered because I vaguely remembered that the original also started weakly. This time, our couple of likeable losers embark on a mission to track down a long-lost daughter in the hope she will donate a kidney. The movie does improve slightly after a while, but it does feature the worst performance by Jim Carrey I have ever seen. Don't waste your time: this "comedy" will make you sad.

A lonely cable guy (Jim Carrey) decides he wants to become one of his customers' best friends. Starts out silly (with some good laughs), ends up psycho. I wanted to watch a comedy, mama, not a stalker movie! Only watch if you're ready to zap.
