This movie was probably classified as a comedy because Ben Stiller is in it, but in fact it should properly be tagged as a light-hearted drama.

As a result, don't expect laughs here. Nevertheless, the movie is solid and contemplates a time in a person's life (the years around fifty) that rarely seems to be the object of a film's attention.

As he takes his son around Boston to college interviews, the main character is led to examine his life, and sees his place in life in a poor light compared with the achievements of his former peers. Stiller does a great job, and the actor who plays the role of the son does even better—perhaps chiefly because his face is less well-known. (Last viewed: April 2018)

After enjoying Ashton Kutcher in several comedies, I was disappointed by this film. My expectations were not high as "romantic comedies" rarely have strong writing, especially in the laughter department. Even so, I'd say that most tragedies have more humor than this movie. I chuckled once, a few minutes from the end, when Kutcher lightens up and tells Portman that she eats her breakfast like a baby dinosaur. It confounds me how this movie can rate higher than Dude, Where's My Car or My Boss's Daughter. These were the films that introduced me to Ashton, and where his innocent smile had a way of putting me in a good (and forgiving) mood. For most of this movie, Ashton is barely recognizable—he barely smiles, so that his face, normally so expressive, turns into a neutral mask. Not good for comedy unless you have an excellent deadpan script. Ashton was 22 in Dude and 33 in this film, and I realize that physiognomies change as we age… But I hope you don't lost your smile, Mr Kutcher! Bottom line: don't waste your time with this one. Two young adults live bland lives in contiguous bland apartments. The result: a well intentioned but absolutely bland movie.

Yet another insipid movie masquerading as a comedy. A family of five brothers must combine a wedding, a world-cup soccer game, parents who don't get along, and… sorry, you bored me so much in the first fifteen minutes that I didn't get past that. Taking a look at Rubén from the wonderful series Antidisturbios seven years earlier was not a redeeming feature. If you're stuck on an airplane and are desperate to go to sleep, do not miss this.

Needing a break, three women rent a decrepit house in an empty resort. The first night, three women acquaintances crash their vacation. By morning, the squatters have eaten all the bread. That's as far as I got with this film as after 25 minutes it didn't seem to want to go anywhere. To me it felt like a very bad film school project. This may be one of these films that can only be appreciated by specific age groups, and only very stoned. If you're making your plans for the evening and are hesitating between watching this and shooting yourself, I'm pretty sure you'll get more satisfaction out of shooting yourself. But I'm not a doctor. (Last viewed: January 2018)

I gave up on this movie after about twenty minutes because I still had no idea what it was about. The acting and production felt like a Spanish soap opera, which is not what I was in the mood for. But the fact is that I'm never in the mood for Spanish soap operas, so if you're differently wired, this might be your cup of tea. (Last viewed: February 2019)

Two deadbeat girls and their deadbeat brothers get into a lot of trouble. Gross, loud, obnoxious. This is the dark side of the spread of technology. Everyone can make a movie, and they do. An awful, awful piece of work. (Last viewed: March 2019)

I forced myself to sit through the first fifteen minutes of this well-meaning but awfully written comedy. The dialog is overly campy and far off the mark. Looks like the plot had to do with some people being mistakenly accused of terrorism. Doesn't matter what it's about, this is a firm "skip".

I started watching this movie because I thought it was a comedy. As it turns out, it is one of the thousand movies that have tried to emulate the style of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. While that style was fresh when the original first came out, it is now so stale that I find the rip-offs unwatchable—and we turned it off after twenty minutes. I'm sure you can do better with your time, and if you're after a laugh, this is certainly not the place to look for it. (Last viewed: February 2017)

If you've bought the propaganda according to which Australia is a paradise, this movie is probably the right medicine. The topic is the race riots that took place south of Sydney pitting "white Australians" against Australians of Middle Eastern extraction (also "white", mind you, just not blond). After failing to even smile after close to twenty minutes, I gave up on it as I was in the mood for comedy, but the movie doubtless has documentary value. (Last viewed: April 2018)

Two cops behave violently. Apart from that, I can't tell much about this movie as we gave up about fifteen minutes. Not only did we not once laugh, we had a hard time with the actors' diction. If Americans are needing subtitles in order to understand an American movie, maybe someone is going a bit too far. (Last viewed: June 2017)

After fifteen minutes, there was no sign that this movie was going to make either of us laugh, so I pressed eject. To me the film seemed to be scripted according to the all-too-common assumption that if you're loud enough and silly enough, people will think you're funny. Some may say that you have to be English—but as a fairly solid fan of U.K. comedy, I'm not sure I buy that. (Last viewed: June 2017)

During the taping of a made-for-television new year party, all hell breaks loose.

It's bad enough that half the movie is one big choreography (excellent I'm sure, but not what I signed up for). The director belongs to the Mel Brooks school of comedy, a school whose main tenet seems to be that more chaos means more fun. Not for me. I didn't laugh once, and wish this kind of movie would cease to be made. (Last viewed: February 2018)
