The Icicle Thief posterThe Icicle Thief (Ladri di Saponette)
      1989 | Italy | Laughs: 1.0 (Don't Bother) | imdb: 7.0
      wikipedia | who was involved?

A film within a film, collisions between levels of reality, references to other movies… in short, this movie is very clever in many ways I deeply dislike (unless it's done from a consistent viewpoint, as in The Matrix). I had a half-chuckle when a character slipped on a soapy floor—that's about it for the comedic value. If you find these kinds of mind-twists entertaining then by all means watch it, otherwise it's a solid "skip". (Last viewed: July 2014)

Come Have Coffee with Us posterCome Have Coffee with Us (Venga a Prendere il Caffè da Noi)
      1970 | Italy | Laughs: 1.0 (Light-Hearted) | imdb: 6.9
      wikipedia | who was involved?

A middle-aged man in search of warmth and comfort decides to marry one of three sisters who live together in a spacious house. I can't say that this movie made me laugh, but the slow and deliberate pace at which the main character puts his plan to action—contrasting with the reckless speed of a younger competitor—was strangely satisfying. I Soliti Ignoti DVDBig Deal on Madonna Street (I Soliti Ignoti)
      1958 | Italy | Laughs: 0.8 (Light-Hearted) | imdb: 8.0
      wikipedia | who was involved?

A motley crew of petty criminals carefully plan a burglary. The movie is still watchable—it has a lot of texture, the plot makes sense and there's no overacting. I don't think the movie will make you laugh, but if you're interested in old films you may enjoy this one for historical or cultural reasons. (Last viewed: July 2014)

Women vs. Men posterWomen vs. Men (Femmine contro maschi)
      2011 | Italy | Laughs: 0.8 (Don't Bother) | imdb: 5.4
      wikipedia | who was involved?

From what I could tell from the movie's first 22 minutes, it consists of a series of vignettes of scenes from the lives of several couple — at least five, I didn't count. I figured that if the movie had failed to entertain me by that point, it wasn't worth insisting.

Note that although this film features the Ficarra & Picone comedy duo, they didn't direct it.

Mio fratello rincorre i dinosauri poster locandinaMio fratello rincorre i dinosauri
      2019 | Italy | Laughs: 0.5 | imdb: 6.6
      wikipedia | who was involved?

A cute film about a teenage boy's mixed feelings about his younger brother, who has Down syndrome. Smiles, but no laughs.

I was surprised to see Pedro Almodóvar's fetish actress Rossy De Palma in an Italian film and enjoyed seeing Alessandro Gassman from Io ti cercherò and the female protagonist of Bang Bang Baby.

Seduced and Abandoned posterSeduced and Abandoned (Sedotta e Abbandonata)
      1964 | Italy | Laughs: 0.1 (Light-Hearted) | imdb: 7.9
      wikipedia | who was involved?

A 16-year-old is seduced by her sister's fiancé. Keeping both families' honor requires complex plotting on all parts. Terrific movie, beautifully shot, engaging despite its age… No idea why it's classified as a comedy. (Last viewed: July 2014)

Marrakech Express posterMarrakech Express

Four friends who have lost touch embark on a road trip to bail an old friend out of a Moroccan jail. Nostalgic, well-intentioned, not funny.

Taxi Girl posterTaxi Girl
      1977 | Italy | Laughs: 0.0 (Don't Bother) | imdb: 5.3
      wikipedia | who was involved?

Before I started watching this movie, I hadn't realized that it belongs to the once-popular genre of Italian adult comedies. If you can make it five minutes into the film, you'll have seen more of it than I did—I barely made it past the opening credits. Utter garbage, at least on the laugh-o-meter scale, the only measure of value on this side. (Last viewed: July 2014)

Four stars. In order to marry his niece, a Sicilian nobleman (Marcello Mastrioanni) plots to murder his wife in the fashion that will send him to jail for the shortest amount of time. Fun and charming, would watch it again. (Last viewed: September 2010)

Subject: Searching for crazy Italian movie

I watched this movie a long time ago (probably around 15 years ago) and it has just stuck in my head. I thought the name was something like "Avarre, averre" but it having been so long ago it may well be something utterly different. One scene really sticks in my head, where a pair of would be burglars end up having to hide inside a jukebox. Someone ends up pressing a button on the jukebox and the burglars end up having to sing a duet of "Only you". I don't remember much more about the movie apart from it being just super fun. If anyone can identify it, I would be very grateful!

Hello everyone! In high school, I watched a funny, family-friendly (most likely PG) Italian movie where a princess is trying to fill in the footsteps of her mother, who was a very good person -- did a lot of charity work etc. Meanwhile, there is a man who is very scruffy and stupid (is willing to have a new medicine tested on him for money) and moves into her castle after they meet and the guy's friend move in and that is basically all I remember. Could somebody please, help me find the movie? It was hilarious and I would love to share it with my family! Thanks in advance!

I was in Italy this past summer and saw a film but I don't know the name. It appeared to be either late 70's or early 80's. It was not subtitled and I do not speak Italian but it appeared to be about the antics of a group of friends and their rivalry with another soccer club. The lead actor had a big afro kind of hairdo and he meets a girl when he visits the hospital after accidently hurting the girls brother in a fight. The group of friends love to play pranks, one of which involves making a friend believe he has won the lottery.

Help. Would love to know the name of the Italian comedy from the 60s or 70s about rustic parents stuck in a world of modern art and music while visiting a daughter in Milan, I believe.

Hello,

I am trying to find the name of an Italian comedy film I saw. The story is of a man (I think he was an ice cream seller) who gets magical powers and becomes a knife thrower and travels from town to town. For some reason he loses his powers and the people force him to throw knifes at his brother-in-law and he says "he is going to make a st. Sebestian of me. " I thought that was one of the funniest lines I have ever come across. Would you know the name of this movie? Thanks.

Hi Tony,

Perhaps it is the classic "Pane e Cioccolata" ("Bread and Chocolate"), which has some famous moments on a chicken farm in Switzerland.

Not a laugh-out-loud comedy, but a great movie, one of my favorites.

Wishing you a fun week,
