About Kevin

I haven't yet written a blurb about Kevin.

Kevin Kline is said to have been born on Friday 24 October 1947, which would make him 76 years, 5 months and 26 days old (if this date is accurate and he is alive today).

Two robbers scheme to discover where their now imprisoned leader has hidden the diamonds. This film is a timeless classic, and not just for fans of John Cleese (the barister): all four lead actors shine on their own, as do some of the supporting cast. You might remember Wanda as a laugh-a-minute movie, but you may find yourself cringing as much as laughing, not least because of the sadistic brand of humor that animates the relationship between Wanda's "brother" Otto and stammer-afflicted Ken. Unlike many comedies, this film has an engaging plot with plenty of dramatic tension. In 1997, its winning foursome was reunited in Fierce Creatures, which deserves to be watched at least once. Nine years after A Fish Called Wanda, the same four lead actors were reunited in this John Cleese movie. It's not a sequel—the plot has to do with the staff of a zoo defending their animals after a media moghul acquires their employer. If you need to compare the film to Wanda, you won't be happy: individually, each of the main characters is less than its 1988 counterpart, apart perhaps from John Cleese, who might be even better as a zookeeper than he was as a barrister. The plot is cute rather than twisted, the humor is straight rather than sadistic. Nevertheless, it's a good effort by a great crew, and if you forget comparisons for a while, you are sure to enjoy the movie and to laugh more than once. (Last viewed: April 2012)

When Billy announces that he is about to get married in Las Vegas, his three friends of sixty years meet him there to throw him a bachelor party. This is a harmless Hollywood film that lets itself watch on a day when you're not feeling demanding. It has plenty of star power (Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro, Kevin Kline, Michael Douglas), and the stars have no trouble carrying the movie. It has plenty of smiles, but if you're looking for laughs… look elsewhere. (Last viewed: February 2014)

After enjoying Ashton Kutcher in several comedies, I was disappointed by this film. My expectations were not high as "romantic comedies" rarely have strong writing, especially in the laughter department. Even so, I'd say that most tragedies have more humor than this movie. I chuckled once, a few minutes from the end, when Kutcher lightens up and tells Portman that she eats her breakfast like a baby dinosaur. It confounds me how this movie can rate higher than Dude, Where's My Car or My Boss's Daughter. These were the films that introduced me to Ashton, and where his innocent smile had a way of putting me in a good (and forgiving) mood. For most of this movie, Ashton is barely recognizable—he barely smiles, so that his face, normally so expressive, turns into a neutral mask. Not good for comedy unless you have an excellent deadpan script. Ashton was 22 in Dude and 33 in this film, and I realize that physiognomies change as we age… But I hope you don't lost your smile, Mr Kutcher! Bottom line: don't waste your time with this one. After many years apart, a group of friends are thrown back together for a weekend after a member of their group kills himself. At first, this is more a soundtrack than a movie, as the pace is slow to pick up. You may or may not relate to the characters' musings on life, but there are good actors, such as William Hurt and the too-rarely seen Jeff Goldblum, and it's probably worth watching once.
