French title: "Tais-Toi". A hardened gangster is forced to share his prison cell with a simple-minded, kind-hearted thief bent on being his friend. After the many laughs of the first half, the film develops a lifeless car-chase and shoot-them-up plot—yawn. Well worth watching more than once if you stick to the jail sequence. This is the second time director Francis Veber uses Depardieu in a "botched-robbery-duo", but the first time around (in
The Fugitives) Depardieu played the hardened bank robber.

Through the forgetfulness of a senile wizard, a knight from the Middle Ages (Jean Reno) is sent to modern-day France. A few good laughs in the first thirty minutes. Through the rest of the film, the humor is rather thick, reflecting the propensity of French comedy makers to create caricature characters—such as their all-time favorite, the effeminate male, grating as ever in this film. Many of the jokes will be lost in translation as they rely on language confusions between old and modern French.

This movie truly sits somewhere on the border between comedy and tragedy. On the one hand you have Roberto Benigni playing his usual character, bringing abundant smiles. On the other hand you have war and a loved one at the edge of death. In my view this is a terrific movie—but save it for a day when you're in the mood for romantic comedy drama.

Four couples spend a week in an exotic resort for couple therapy. It felt like watching a lot of therapy, which is uncommon in the movies. A good film from that standpoint, just not a particularly funny one.
